After an Interview

Send Thank You Letters
Approximately 15% of hiring managers state that they will not hire someone who fails to send a thank you note and 32% say they will still consider the candidate, but think less of him/her. For tips on what to include, read our Thank You Letter Handout (pdf) under Related Handouts.

When To Follow Up
It is okay to call the employer to inquire about the status of the position if you have not heard from them. The timing of this call should be based on the timeline they discussed with you at the end of the interview. If a time frame was not provided, call in one week to reiterate your interest in the position and ask when they plan to make a decision.

Keep Job Searching
While it can be tempting to stop your job search until you hear back from an employer, we recommend that you keep applying for positions. This ensures that if you do not receive a job offer, you will have other options to pursue.
