Applied Economics

Are you interested in using economic ideas and data to help businesses become more competitive?   Are you interested in improving the environment in a thoughtful way?  Are you interested in a sound foundation for study in law, economics, public affairs, or business?  Economics is the study of how individuals and businesses behave and interact in markets, and of how the whole economy responds to actions taken by governments and other countries.  Students trained in applied economics use these ideas in real-world settings, including financial markets, retail businesses, public sector agencies, and environmental groups.

An Applied Economics major prepares you for a career in management and finance in corporate settings; commodity trading; operations management of grocery stores or other retail companies; sales; international business; environmental policy analysis; or the public sector.

Applied Economics graduates typically work as commodity merchandisers, financial advisors, market analysts, sales representatives, and store managers.  Applied Economics graduates often pursue additional study in law, business, or economics.
