Current Job Title: Associate Clothing Designer

I knew others that were interning at Target, and they informed me about an opening for a Men's clothing design intern. I applied and interviewed, and was awarded the job. Then I was asked to apply and interview for the open assistant designer position in Men's. I began working as the assistant designer to the Men's knits, sweaters, swim and outerwear team in June 2005.
Target Corporation, Assistant Designer
My current position is as an Associate SWAT Designer. I will move from team to team to fill-in where there are open positions, or if someone is out on medical leave, or has a large work load. I am placed on the team temporarily. I work with each design team to research trends, shop the market, and design clothing. I work closely with a fabric team, trim team, sourcing team, technical designers, and buyers to build great and affordable products.
Studios helped me to better understand what goes into constructing a garment. So even though I don't sew any of the clothes I design I can better communicate to our vendors so they can create the garments and achieve the aesthetic I intended.
I'm always amazed by the amount of strategy and research that goes into creating a successful line of clothing. We work very closely with our buying teams to bring the right product to the store.
