Please describe your job:
As an Interactive Designer I juggle lots of responsibilities including strategy, design, art direction, sound design, animation, and production—just to name a few. Everyday is a new challenge, so trying to describe a typical day would be difficult. Just know that this industry is addicting and competitive so be prepared to work like mad and learn as you go.

What from your undergraduate educational experience was most helpful in preparing you for this career?
Your course work is only a foundation from which to build. It's the passion you have for your extracurricular design and creative design that will inspire others to see your potential. If you’re only doing what's required in your course work you are missing a huge opportunity to explore. Get an internship—get 2 or 3. This is where you truly learn what it takes to makes this a career.

What is the biggest misconception about this occupation or field? What surprised you the most?
You may need to do freelance/contract work as a trial for hire before getting a job offer.

What advice do you have for current students?
Get related experience in the field.  Meet lots of design professionals and take their advice to heart. Do not give up. There is a place for you—it may just take you a bit longer to find it.
