Job Search Strategies

View our online jobs and internship searching workshop at http://www.stpaulcareers.umn.edu/workshops.html.

Job searching for an internship or full time job can often seem like a daunting task.  While there are a lot of things to consider, breaking it down into three manageable steps can sometimes make this feel a bit less overwhelming.  These steps include:

  1. Create a resume, related correspondence and marketing tools

  2. Learn effective interview strategies and practice them

  3. Identify job and internship openings

This section of our web site is loaded with detailed information related to each of these steps.  Keep in mind that effective job searching is something that has to be learned!  Take the time to research what employers expect with resumes, cover letters, interview answers and job search etiquette.  You will be a lot more effective in your job search if you invest time in learning this information from experienced career professionals.  Below you will find some career advice from recent graduates on job searching.

“Use every resource available at the Career Services and through your mentors and networks.”

“Utilize Career Services, they will help in the search for jobs, not only by bringing employers to campus, but also in the preparation process by interviewing skills, resume building, and much more.”
