Questions for Employers

Watch our online video on Asking Questions of Employers.

The most common final question in interviews is “What questions do you have for me?” It is very important for you to ask questions of the employer during this time to show a genuine interest in the organization.  Even if you have completed extensive research on the company and position ask questions anyway!  Some Do’s and Don’ts when asking questions of employers:

  • Do ask questions that incorporate your company research.  (i.e. I noticed that you just launched a new product last month.  How might the release of this new product change the work of this department?)

  • Do ask questions that help you determine if you would like the organizational culture.

  • Don’t ask about salary or benefits until a job offer has been made.

  • Don’t ask obvious questions about the company that you should know from company research (i.e. What kind of products does your company have?

For a list of sample questions to ask employers review our Effective Interviewing Handout or review those web sites listed under related links.
