Previous Jobs:
High School Agriculture Teacher
Self-employed Farmer

Please describe your job:
Write weekly news columns; tape a radio show; plan, coordinator, and teach at farm educational meetings and field days; answer agriculture-related consumer questions by researching topics related to agriculture; assist with test plots; and collaborate with other government agencies on local agricultural issues.

What from your undergraduate educational experience was most helpful in preparing you for this career?
My general farm background and the broad spectrum agriculture courses.

What is the biggest misconception about this occupation or field?
You don't have to know everything-- just be able to find the person or resource that has the information that people are in need of. Sometimes all you need to be is a willing listening ear.

What advice do you have for current students?
Keep an open mind about what is helpful-- you never know what resource or past experience you will draw upon to assist someone.

Is there anything else you would like to add that we didn't ask you?
I never considered this as a career until two years before I was hired. I have now been in this line of work for twenty years and enjoy it more all the time.
