Before selecting a major it is important to spend time thinking about who you are and where your interests lie. For major and career preparation, students are encouraged to spend time exploring themselves in four areas:
Interests – What fields, courses and topics interest you?
Skills – What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?
Personality - What kind of person are you? Shy or Outgoing? Detail Oriented or Big Picture Person? How might this effect the career choice you select?
Values - What is most important to you, in your work and in your life? Does the career you are considering align well with these values?
If you are undecided, we HIGHLY recommend that you meet with a career counselor to explore these areas in more detail. To schedule an individual appointment with a career professional call 612-624-2710. Through individual activities and career assessment inventories, we can assist you in developing strong self knowledge that will assist you in making a more educated career choice.
