There are many ways to connect with people in your industry without a formal informational interview or mentor program relationship. A few strategies for doing this are listed below.
Introduce yourself to guest speakers in class. Ask them a few questions about their career.
Attend alumni social events related to your major, college or the University.
Join student groups related to your major. Talk with guest speakers after meetings, or better yet, volunteer to schedule guest speakers for the organization.
Company tours are often available through college offices or departments. Attend these tours and talk with people you meet while on site.
Join a professional association related to your field. Volunteer at one of their events as a way to get to know other members.
Ask to job shadow someone you already know in a related field. Introduce yourself to others you meet while visiting the organization.
Volunteer at an organization of interest and get to know those in occupations of interest.
